Expert Podiatry Care for a Range of Foot Conditions in Auckland

Foot Conditions We Treat

At Footprint Podiatry in Auckland, we treat various foot conditions that can cause pain, discomfort, and long-term problems. Here's a closer look at some of the common issues we address and how we can help:

Ingrown Toenails

Ingrown toenails occur when the edge of the nail grows into the surrounding skin, leading to severe pain and potential infection if untreated. This condition can be caused by:

  • Trauma, such as stubbing your toe or dropping something on it
  • Repetitive trauma from sports or ill-fitting shoes
  • Incorrect nail cutting, such as cutting nails too short
  • Hereditary factors which can cause the nails to be abnormally curved

Surgical options such as Partial Nail Avulsion (PNA) or Total Nail Avulsion (TNA) may be necessary for chronic or severe cases. These procedures are performed under local anaesthetic, with excellent outcomes. PNA removes the problematic section of the nail, while TNA removes the entire nail when required.

Heel & Arch Pain

Heel and arch pain can stem from various causes, including plantar fasciitis, stress fractures, Achilles tendinopathy, nerve entrapment, etc. Plantar fasciitis is the most common condition we treat, often causing pain in the heel or arch. After diagnosing the issue, we'll develop a personalised treatment plan to alleviate pain and promote recovery.

Verrucae (Warts)

Verrucae are caused by the Human papillomavirus (HPV) and appear as well-defined lesions with a cauliflower-like texture, often surrounded by calluses. These warts can be painful, especially in weight-bearing areas of the foot. They are highly contagious and commonly spread in public places like swimming pools, showers, and gymnasiums. We offer various treatment options to remove and manage verrucae effectively.

Corns & Calluses

Calluses and corns form due to repeated pressure or friction on specific areas of the foot. Calluses are thicker patches of skin, while corns are smaller, hardened areas that often develop a painful core. Both can become uncomfortable or painful over time. We can safely remove corns and reduce calluses while addressing the underlying cause to prevent recurrence.

Diabetic Foot Conditions

Diabetes can lead to severe foot complications, including nerve damage (neuropathy) and loss of sensation. This increases the risk of unnoticed injuries, which can develop into ulcers or more serious conditions. As podiatrists, we play a crucial role in diabetic foot care by helping you prevent complications and manage any existing issues. Regular check-ups are essential for maintaining foot health if you have diabetes.

Footwear

Wearing improperly fitted shoes can contribute to various foot problems, including ingrown toenails, blisters, corns, calluses, and muscle strain. On the other hand, well-fitted footwear supports foot health and aids in recovery from injury. We provide guidance on selecting the right footwear for your specific needs and can recommend brands that suit your foot type.

At Footprint Podiatry, we help you achieve healthier, pain-free feet with expert care and tailored treatment plans.
